Howdy friends! How are you? As many of you know I started my Bookstagram just over a year ago and I’m so unbelievably grateful for how well it has done! I never thought I’d get 400 followers, let alone 4,000! So crazy. As such the amount of awesome bookmail I’ve received has been so wonderful so I thought I’d do a little wrap up of the physical books I’ve been gifted! (If I’ve missed any please know I’m super super grateful)

How did I get these books?
Tours
The majority of the books I’ve received are advanced copies for tours. Tours are a great way to find new authors and new books and there are so many companies to request from! Requesting doesn’t guarantee you a spot but what’s the harm in trying, right?
Publishers
Another way I’ve received books is directly from publishers.
- Some publishers will host their own blog/bookstagram tours, check if the publishers PR department have an instagram or twitter account because they’ll often put a call-out on their stories! (Tip- turn on post notifications)
- Following the publishers and their PR officers on Social Media is a great idea too! Often they’ll post when proof copies come in and thats around the time you want to send a request! Every one of the publicity reps I’ve spoken to have been super lovely! But remember they’re people too! Try to contact them within office hours if connecting via social media and if you don’t get a book you wanted please don’t be rude to them! Copies are extremely limited.
- Emailing the publishers publicity department is probably the most common way to request a proof copy. Head to the publishers website and look for their publicity contact. Remember to include the title, author, release date/month and isbn if you can find it as well as your mailing address! You may not always be successful but if you don’t ask, the answer will always be no.
Giveaways
Giveaways are a fun way to get books! Again, theres no guarantees but you have to be in it to win it! A great way to find giveaways are by following authors, publishers and bookshops on social media. When a book is due to release authors and publishers will often host giveaways to drum up extra hype for a book! So keep an eye out for that.
This is not a guide
I’m not an expert at requesting and getting books, I think most of it comes down to luck but in my opinion, what have you got to lose? Even if they say no or don’t reply, you haven’t lost anything!
